Jurassic Perks

Steven Spielberg did a phenomenal job entertaining us back in the 1990’s with his rendition of Michael Crichton’s book Jurassic Park. While he may have missed some pertinent details for the sake of entertainment (Velocer Raptors were not nearly as tall as the movie represented) it was fascinating to imagine what it would be like if dinosaurs were around today. This begs answer to the question that evolutionist’s and creationist’s both disagree on, was man around when dinosaurs existed?

Evolution claims that we were not, that the dinosaurs died off millions of years prior to the onset of man. The Bible claims that we did live in the time of these ancient reptiles, specifically, Job in his book in chapter 41, has a very detailed description of a dinosaur that most biblical footnote's poorly suggests is a rhino. As a matter of fact dinosaurs are even mentioned in Genesis during the creation of our planet, sadly through politics and vague translations we end up with words like birds, as opposed to the exact translation of the Hebrew word being winged creatures (covering not only Pterodactyls but insects as well).

For those wishing to research the debate further I suggest looking into the Paluxy river fossil finds from Texas, and for those who like to maintain a bias education I have provided links to both sides of that find:

Evolution Link

Creation Link

I like to consider the possibility that we may still live in an age with dinosaurs, not only to support the ancient global phenomenon of dragons but also those chasing sea serpents like ole’ nessie. In 1977 (link) a Japanese fishing boat caught a large fish that later scientist (non-Japanese scientist I might add) claimed to be a Basking Shark. At the time, the Japanese Scientists were so convinced that this was a Plesiosaurs the country even created a stamp to commemorate the find. The interesting suggestion here is that if evolution is wrong about man not existing in the time of the dinosaurs then either these sea creatures have a million year life span, or maybe they are wrong about the age of the earth as well.

But I have already strayed to far off topic, this is about Jurassic Perks, so let me explain the two concepts that I feel God designed the dinosaurs for. I will keep my explanations brief (buy the book!!) and try to keep it as simple as possible. The first is one that is more of a paradise lost ideology, had our greatest grandparents not screwed things up we would be benefiting from this Perk today. For anyone that has ever watched the old cartoon Dino Riders (youtube link) or even The Flintstones (youtube link) then imagining this theory will be easy enough. It is that they were intended to be our forms of transportation and construction, in a natural utopia where we could communicate with nature and we all had a little Dr. Dolittle in us, this would have been a wonderful tool. The sad parallel is that our own man made dinosaurs exist today, building our sky scrappers and ripping apart our forests.

The second Perk is a little more functional and conceivable, they certainly would have had the same effect if we had not lost Eden but play an even more important role today in the great debate of our origins. Essentially the larger species of the dinosaurs (which only made up about %20) acted as a Terraforming Accelerator of sorts. This would have been very useful in the early stages of our planet, not only helping to speed up the development of foliage but also in keeping our atmosphere clean. The ancient behemoths were so large that they would constantly need to be eating in order to maintain their rapid metabolisms, and of course what better fertilizer for a large rocky land mass than dino dung? Not to mention their enormous lungs helping to spew out carbon dioxide to help those plants grow up big and strong. I have never heard of this idea before and when recognized I feel it has a simplicity to it that cannot be ignored.

So these are my two crazy concepts of the purpose for our fascinating ancient reptilian creatures. What do you believe they were for? Do you even believe that they were around when man was? Where did they all go? There are tons of questions surrounding these amazing creatures, the only thing that we do know for sure is that they did exist and now do not. Beyond that everything else, even down to the color of their skin, is purely speculation. Give me your input, do your think I’m crazy, or that everyone else is for never thinking of this in the first place. I have a great quote I created several years ago that I think not only helps in this debate but also in many others:

"Some things go over our heads, most… Goes under"

No matter what you believe, the dinosaurs are not here today but we do know that they existed and whether they were intended to be our transportation or not, they are definitely fueling our transportation today.
